This season has brought many early surprises, as most seasons do. Now it’s starting to heat up across the country as we work our way into May. The dog days are still at least a month away, but right now teams are starting to find their rhythm, be it winning or losing, and setting a tone for the months to come.
Friday, May 8: Cardinals at Reds. Who’d have thought this would be the NL Central elite teams battling it out at this point? This division has stumped me most of all so far. Forget the Cubs, just the fact that these two teams are playing as well as they are, and for the Reds it’s much better than their record, speaks volumes to their desire to win games. Joel Pineiro you know, even if you don’t know he’s got a 4-1 record with a 3.2 ERA. Johnny Cueto you might not know as well, but you should. He’s only 2-1, but he has a 1.65 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. That’s incredible for a starting pitcher. Does it seem like the NL is full of pitchers with ERA’s either under 2 or over 6 this year? Cueto was solid in his last outing, but he’ll have his hands full here. I give the Cards a slight edge at -120 to the Reds +110. Tough call on which side of the line to go, though. Might make it a game-time decision based on the lineups.
Sticking with the theme of baseball betting surprises, how about this one. Royals at Angels, also a Friday game. If you can tell me at the before the season that the road team in this game would be the favorite with a straight face you deserve a big gold star. Meche isn’t lighting it up for the Royals like Greinke is, though. The Angels put Matt Palmer to the mound, who’s won his only two starts this year. The Angels have shown some signs of life, and are leveling off, even if it is as a .500 team early on. It’s a story of great hitting (second in the league) offset by below average (9th in the AL) pitching. On the other side of things, it’s easy to see the Royals are playing inspired baseball right now. It reminds me of six or seven years ago when the Royals were in the race right up until the last month of the season before retreating back to second or third place. But they believe they can win, and that can be more dangerous that bats, pitching or defense on any given day. It just depends on which way the wind is blowing.

Ted Forrest was born in Syracuse, New York and is an excellent poker player who has been playing at the professional level for over a decade now. Forrest specializes in Stud Poker, but has spent the past decade focusing on Texas Holdem since the action is much more available then in Stud Poker. Forrest gained his reputation of being an excellent poker player after he won three WSOP bracelets in 1993 which is just an incredible amount of bracelets in one year.
Ted’s first WSOP bracelet in 1993 came when he won the $1500 Seven Card Razz event, he followed that win up with a win in the $1500 Omaha Eight or Better and then finally won his third bracelet of the year when he won the $5000 Seven Card Stud Event. After his killer success at the WSOP in 1993 Ted decided he wanted to focus mainly on cash games and he took a break from playing in live tournaments. Cash games offered a much better return then tournaments and it was much simpler for Ted to make his money playing the cash games only.
After years away from Titan Poker tournaments Ted decided that he would jump back into the circuit to see how well he would fare. Ted ended up winning two more WSOP bracelets in 2004 with one of the bracelets coming in No Limit Holdem and the other in Seven Card Stud. The Holdem bracelet proved to many of Ted’s fans and even himself that he wasn’t just a great Stud player, but that he could hang with the best players in Holdem as well.
It takes a lot of skill, practice and dedication in order to become a formidable opponent in more then one poker game and Ted has managed to master many variations of the game. Forrest is known around the world as being one of the top Stud Poker players in history and lately many people have been listing Ted in the top 50 Holdem players of all-time which is quite the accomplishment.
Over Ted’s Absolute Poker career he has won five WSOP bracelets and finished in the money twenty-one times in only WSOP events. On the WPT Ted has also done fairly well winning one WPT title, making five final tables and finishing in the money nine times. He hasn’t played in the WPT nearly as much as the WSOP which is why his results seem low. Ted has won over $5 million in live tournament events and as I mentioned Ted spent most of his time at the cash tables so you can only imagine how much money he has made from poker.
You can see Ted on TV occasionally and he has made appearances on Poker After Dark and the National Heads-Up Championship. Forrest is a very straightforward guy and he tells people exactly what he is thinking which is why many people like him so much. Forrest is living in Vegas right now and if you’re down there you can see him most likely playing Stud or Holdem on the cash tables at one of the casinos.

With the popularity of H.O.R.S.E. continuing to grow many of you I know are starting to learn how to play this poker game. The rules are simple, the difficult part is learning how to deal with playing five poker games at once. Most online players don’t take notes, but if you’re going to be playing at the same table for a nice session I would spend the time taking notes. It’s too hard to remember everything in HORSE Poker since the game is switching every time around the table.
